The Intensive Course in Lecce is mandatory for all students and it starts immediately after the arrival in August. This course, for which students receive 0.5 academic credit, lasts three weeks and includes 3 hours of lessons from Monday to Friday. This course offers the opportunity to explore the city of Lecce through language and cultural immersion. We cover the topics – the Baroque and the Risorgimento – in their historical, artistic, political and linguistic contexts both in class and in guided tours.

The first part of the course focuses on Lecce’s Baroque, allows you to discover the main artistic places such as the Basilica of Santa Croce, Saint Oronzo Square and the Duomo Square, and to explore some traditional customs of the Salento region such as Tarantismo and Pizzica. The second part of the course focuses on the Unification of Italy and Risorgimento through the analysis of texts and films such as Il Gattopardo by Luchino Visconti, in order to understand  important aspects of Italian history and politics which will be discussed during the Intensive Course in Bologna. The course includes visit the cities of Otranto, Santa Maria di Leuca and Matera.

The study of  the language, vocabulary and grammar rules is always linked to the cultural topics of the course, to develop specific skills of comprehension, verbal communication and writing. During the course you will take two written exams, will give an oral presentation (in pairs or in groups) and will write two essays. The main purpose of the course is to prepare you to attend E.C.Co. and UniBo courses in Bologna.
