Courses offered by the program (“corsi interni”) will be small in size and taught by Italian professors. In addition to these courses, students with adequate Italian (as demonstrated by the exam following the intensive language course in September or in January) will have access to a wide range of courses in the humanities, sciences and social sciences at the University of Bologna. A mandatory writing workshop offered by the program will support students’ writing in the “corsi interni” as well as in courses taken at the University.
Each semester students can expect to receive a total of 4 credits:
0.5 credit for the Intensive Italian for Academic Purposes course
0.5 credit for the Writing Workshop
1 credit for each E.C.Co. course
1 credit for each University of Bologna course
Fall students attending the summer session in Lecce will receive an additional 0.5 credit.
In the “corsi interni” students are usually expected to take a written midterm exam and a final oral exam. The University of Bologna exams vary from course to course and are agreed upon with the individual faculty member.
To successfully enroll in a University of Bologna course, E.C.Co. students will have to arrange an early final exam (i.e. before their departure from Bologna) with their professor.
All E.C.Co. courses (summer session in Lecce included) and University of Bologna courses are taken for letter grades and reported on an official transcript to the home institution. Students should check with their home institution to see how grades from study abroad are reported and calculated in terms of grade point averages.
